Irma Rivera Family Center

Irma Rivera Family Center

The Irma Rivera Center (IRC) Adult Advocacy Center was developed in honor of Christina’s mother, Irma Rivera, and serves as the hub of important community programs designed to enhance the quality of life for our students’ families. The Center works collaboratively with effective community partners to provide career resources, social service information, referrals and advocacy support in a manner that is accessible, responsive, and complementary to the school’s mission.

Irma Rivera

Irma Rivera was born in Puerto Rico in 1919 and came to the US at the age of 23. Ms. Rivera, a working single mother with limited resources, provided a safe and nurturing environment for her daughter, Christina. Christina attributes much of her success in life to the core values she learned at a very young age from her mother. Our Family Center will carry on Ms. Rivera’s tradition by ensuring that all CSA caregivers are able to positively contribute to the ongoing growth of their student.

Advocacy

By way of our community partners, the IRC provides ongoing advocacy support for enrolled families across a wide range of legal, family, and housing related issues. IRC staff members are available on most days to respond to the urgent needs of enrolled families.

Career Counseling

The IRC works collaboratively with effective community partners to provide career resources, referrals and resume and interview preparation services for enrolled families. IRC staff provide career advancement support in a manner that is accessible, responsive, and complementary to the school’s mission and parents’ aspirations.

Housing Assistance

We believe that students are more likely to succeed when they enjoy a safe home environment. Unfortunately confusing rental agreements, absentee landlords, and obscure renters' rights complicate many families’ ability to attain the peace of mind that correlates with having a reliable and safe home address. The IRC works closely with the parents of enrolled children to ensure that they attain the fundamental privilege of enjoying a stable home address and safe home environment. ar seguro.
